DFS Habicht 1.4m

The DFS Habicht was a glider developed in 1936 by Hans Jacobs in collaboration with the German Research Institute for Gliding. It was the first fully aerobatic glider and was completed in time for the 1936 Summer Olympics. The Habicht impressed the public with its flight characteristics and was flown by famous pilots such as Hanna Reitsch. In 1939, the French pilot Marcel Doret won the first world championship title in glider aerobatics with a Habicht. During the Second World War, Habicht versions were used to train pilots of the Messerschmitt Me 163 rocket-powered interceptor. Today, there are still replicas of the Habicht, and the only original surviving example is on display at the Aviation Museum in Paris.

The technical data of the original DFS Habicht are:
-Crew: 1
-Length: 6.58 m
-span: 13.60 m
-Wing area: 15.82 m²
-glide ratio: 21
-Armament mass: 235 kg
-Max. Take-off mass: 350 kg
-Maximum speed: 250 km/h

The Habicht was a remarkable glider that reflected the innovative power of its time!

About the model:

We offer you here a semi-scale kit from AviationToys.NL.

Although we are well known for our high quality full Carbon models, we have chosen this model and the new wonderful wooden kit from AviationToys.nl out of pure passion. Anyone who has had the opportunity to admire the shell of this model at one of our trade fairs will perhaps understand why we had to include this beautiful model in our program! The filigree wooden construction is irresistible and tempts you to build a beautiful wooden airplane again.

But the flight characteristics of the 1.4m Habicht are also first class. Intended more for the slope, the Habicht by Vincent Merlijn is equipped with a faster profile. Although it also likes thermals, it can be flown a little faster.

The CNC-mastered kit is of good quality and allows a great model to be built relatively quickly.
