General

Carboline - is a unique ultra-thin double or multi-layer carbon fiber. It is not woven but processed unidirectionally in different layers. This design enables extremely light and extremely stable constructions that are very dimensionally stable, especially at high temperature differences.

Carboline is an ultra-thin tape that is bonded from the high-quality carbon fiber TohoTenax® in different layers and fiber directions. Carboline's production technology enables 830 TEX, 24K (1K = 1000 monofilaments) fibers to be evenly distributed up to 75 mm and still has all the advantages of a unidirectional fiber. In production, the processing of Carboline can be easily adapted so that it is easy to respond to special customer requirements. Almost any ply angle and almost any number of plies can now be produced. Simply contact us so that we can discuss your requirements.

The Carboline advantages

- The straight fiber, without any bends or loops in the structure, increases the strength and makes the construction very dimensionally stable. Especially with temperature fluctuations.
- Dry and unprocessed, Carboline does not stretch or disintegrate into filaments and therefore enables precise cutting of even the smallest parts.
- Multilayer carbon fabrics can be produced in various angles and directions with a minimum thickness of 0.014 mm (12 g/m²) per layer.
- Reinforcements can be applied over one or more layers of Carboline and positioned as required.
- Carboline can also be combined with the unidirectional fiber (120 g/m²) according to your requirements.
- Carboline is produced as standard in the maximum size of 3100mm×600 mm. To reduce waste, we can also produce smaller sizes according to your requirements.

The fiber

Carboline is made from TohoTenax fibers
- Intermediate modulus fiber - IMS65.
- High modulus fiber (HM) - UMS40.
- Standard modulus fiber - HTS40.

Mirrored installation

Carboline can be laid in direct +45°/-45° and mirrored -45°/+45° layers. In order to achieve the best possible stability with temperature fluctuations in constructions under 5mm, it makes sense to laminate the layers directly on one side and mirrored on the other. Details can be taken from the picture.

If the length of the component is narrower than the Carboline is wide, both the direct layer and the mirrored layer can be cut from a single sheet in a single operation by simply rotating the component by 90°. This saves waste and time.

Specification of the standard Carboline blades

Shell construction

High rigidity and dimensional stability with low weight are also required for a shell wing. The photo shows a MAXA Pro 4M Light HM in high-modulus construction. This design makes it possible to build this model about 15% lighter than the already very light and stable standard Pro version. The model does not become more sensitive or "softer", but retains its full compression and bending stability. The MAXA series "for Experts" is impressive proof of the advantages of Carboline high-modulus fiber.

Ultra-thin construction

As a single layer is just 0.014 mm thick, extremely thin symmetrical structures can be built, which are three-dimensionally stable with a wall thickness of 0.05 mm. This extremely lightweight construction achieved good results on solar panels for satellites, as the picture shows very well. Another advantage here is that the Carboline fiber is able to withstand high temperature differences.

Sandwich construction

Carboline is often used in sandwich structure construction. This example shows a very light F3K model aircraft. In order to fulfill the flight task in this sport, in addition to the lowest possible masses, the rigidity of the components with simultaneous pressure resistance in the handling of the models is also important. In addition, the models are exposed to very different conditions. On the one hand, they often spend a whole day in the sun at high temperatures, but on the other hand, the temperatures can also be very cool, windy and sometimes damp.

Caboline is ideal here as its uniform structure and rigidity make the surface very smooth, even without the use of gel coat. You can save a lot of weight with this type of model. In addition, the dimensional stability at high temperature differences is another advantage of the Carboline fiber.

Pipe technology

Caboline is also ideal for the production of tubes or tube-like structures. The unidirectional, diagonal layers of Carboline fiber significantly strengthen the structure for impact resistance and rigidity without adding weight.
